Gold and silver for food use are regulated as colouring food additives, including: Gold: E-175 Silver: E-174 According to Royal Decree 1111/1991 (Royal Decree amending the technical-sanitary regulations on food additives), a food additive is considered to be: "any substance that is not normally consumed as food itself, nor used as a characteristic ingredient in foodstuffs, whether or not they have nutritional value, and whose intentional addition to food products, for technological purposes, in the phase of their manufacture, transformation, preparation, treatment, packaging, transport or storage, has or can reasonably be expected to result, directly or indirectly, in the additive itself or its by-products becoming a component of said food products. According to Royal Decree 3177/1983 (Royal Decree approving the technical-sanitary regulations on food additives), the Additives Food Colourings are considered: "substances that provide, enhance or vary the colour of food products". As stated in Royal Decree 2001/1995 (Royal Decree approving the positive list of colouring additives authorised for their use in the production of food products, as well as their conditions of use), all colourings will be sold to the final consumer. its Annex I, this list says: "Gold E 175, Silver E 174". |
